Allen Bird Club hosts talk on increasing American kestrel population
SPRINGFIELD — Ben Nickley didn’t pay much attention to birds, right up until he took a class about them at Ohio State University. “I’ve always been interested in nature and the natural world, but I just never really noticed birds until my (professor’s teaching assistant) pointed out a ruby-crowned kinglet, flitting around in a tree on the South Oval of Ohio State’s campus,” said Nickley. “From that moment on, I was deeply engaged, because it was such a cool animal that was always around, but just hidden in plain sight.”
