Indiana Man Injured in I-30 Shootout with Arkansas State Police
Hope, AR – An Indiana man was injured after allegedly fleeing from and firing on Arkansas State Police Troopers on Interstate 30 on Monday. According to the Arkansas State Police, the incident began at approximately 10:10 p.m. near the Hempstead/Nevada County line. Troopers pursued the suspect, identified as Joshua Harrison, 43, of Richmond, Indiana, who allegedly fired shots at them near the 36-mile marker. Troopers returned fire and performed a tactical vehicle intervention near the 35-mile marker, causing Harrison’s vehicle to cross the median and be struck by an eastbound tractor trailer.

Congressman Mrvan announces $963,000 in funding for Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana
HAMMOND, Ind. (WNDU) - A beacon of educational excellence and innovation for the last 25 years in Hammond is getting nearly $1 million in funding. Indiana 1st District Congressman Frank Mrvan and board members of the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana announced that the center will receive $963,000 in community project funding during a news conference on Friday morning.
Opioid settlement fund fuels anti-addiction battle in Indiana
Indiana is stepping up its fight against addiction with a boost from an opioid settlement fund. The money comes from a $54 billion 2021 Opioid Settlement Fund created by manufacturers, distributors and retailers to address their role in the nation's opioid epidemic. Indiana will receive $508 million from the fund over the next several years.

A Daily Kos analysis of the round of redistricting following the 2020 census concluded that the 1st district had shifted towards Republicans. Joe Biden (D) received 53.4% of the 2020 presidential vote under the new district lines and 53.6% under the old district lines.
