The shooting caused bodily damage to the car and shattered the windows. The victim returned fire with his own gun. Thomas fled the scene in his black Nissan Altima, which police later found near Thomas’ residence. The Altima also had shattered windows.

Thomas’ father gave police permission to search the apartment. A black handgun was located in the master bedroom and was collected by police. Thomas was found in the basement, hiding under a blanket and other clothing materials in a mesh hamper.
