FERRIDAY, La. – The Town of Ferriday inaugurated a new mayor and council on Monday, and in their first act the officials replaced the town’s police chief, fire chief, clerk and attorney.

As new mayor Mayor Alvin Garrison was sworn in, he pledged to make “a positive impact on our town.”

“Thank you for trusting me and the trust that you placed in me. I am eager to make a positive impact on our town, and I would like to thank my family for continuing to stand by my side,” Garrison said during his inaugural speech.

Joining Garrison as new officials were aldermen Dra’Carl Walker (District A) and Devonte Schiele (District B). The three incumbents beginning new terms were Alderwoman Gail Pryor (District C), Andre Keys (District D), and Gloria Lloyd (District E).

“I am grateful that the town of Ferriday has elected me, and I’m not running for power, I’m running to help the people of Ferriday,” Lloyd said. “And no matter whether or not you voted for me, if you need my help, I will help you.”

She also encouraged a fresh start and support for the new council members.

“I began by saying this is an inauguration ceremony, and the inaugural symbolizes a new beginning. We have been challenged to do our part, each one of us, to make sure that Mayor Garrison and the town council are successful. Let us go forth doing our part with enthusiasm and positivity,” Lloyd said.

In the first actions taken by the new council, members appointed new town officials, including new Police Chief Clarence Hall Jr.; Fire Chief Danny Cupit; Attorney Jay Boyd; Street Superintendent Anthony Hawkins, and Town Clerk Becky McKeel-Albert.

“I hope to make sure that everyone is in compliance with the laws and get everything that we need to make Ferriday a great place to live,” Boyd said.
