FERRIDAY, La. — Firefighters responded to a house fire near Ferriday that was fully engulfed and caused an adjacent house to catch fire before their arrival early Tuesday.

Concordia Fire District No. 2 Chief Vick Brown said they were called to a structure fire at approximately 1:45 a.m. Tuesday on Skipper Drive just outside of Ferriday.

“A neighbor called and when he got there the house was fully engulfed and another house behind it was catching on fire,” he said. “We made entry to the second house and put it out and contained other fire to the original building. One was a total loss.”

Brown said he believes both buildings had one owner and the one that was a total loss appeared to be used only for storage. He wasn’t sure Tuesday if the homeowner was living in the second building or not but no one was inside when officials arrived.

The cause of the fire will be difficult to determine but is under investigation, Brown said.

“The damage was so bad, it’s no telling. It is under investigation but it will probably be undetermined. Arson is not suspected.”
