FERRIDAY, La. — Ferriday officials said felony warrants placed on a police officer were because of misidentification when the officer lost or had his ID card stolen.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Ferriday police officer Oliver Robinson III on Thursday with outstanding felony warrants from Arkansas for theft greater than $5,000 and forgery.

“Concordia picked him up. They had to do their job,” Ferriday Mayor Alvin Garrison said on Friday.

However, Garrison said that the charges wouldn’t stick because Robinson had his identity stolen. Garrison said Robinson told him that he’d lost or had his ID card stolen. For that reason, Garrison said Robinson would not be suspended.

“I called and talked to a lawyer about this and (Robinson) is in Arkansas now, clearing this up. When it’s cleared up, he’ll come back to work,” Garrison said.
