Little Switzerland FFA Agronomy team brings home State Champion Honors ...
Four individuals of the Little Switzerland FFA Chapter from Waukon High School competed in the Agronomy career development event (CDE) at both the District and State levels earlier this summer. The team included members (left to right in the submitted photo above) Sarah Stock, Kendra Gibbs, Caleb Helgerson and Olivia Marti. May 13, the team competed at the Northeast Iowa District Contest held at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo and was named the Reserve Champion Team. In the final individual standings, Olivia Marti placed 2nd, Sarah Stock placed 5th, Kendra Gibbs placed 12th, and Caleb Helgerson placed 16th.

Gardening and pizza went together perfectly in Waukon and Lansing at recent youth sessions hosted by Allamakee County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Youth learned the different parts of a plant, and how each part is edible depending on the fruit or vegetable. It was discussed which parts help make a pizza, while everyone designed their perfect pizza. Ideas ranged from pepperoni to ice cream to candy pizza. Youth used English muffins to make personal pizzas for lunch.

Kee softball sophomore pitcher Addison Winters steps on home plate as she’s greeted by her teammates after blasting a solo homerun in the Hawks’ 10-0 home mercy-rule win in five innings over Central Elkader in the opening round of Class 1A Region 7 Tournament play Monday, July 8. Winters went three-for-four at the plate in the win, crushing this round-tripper and two singles while also recording the rare pitching feat of recording all of her outs by strikeout, as she posted 12 strikeouts in her four innings in the circle while allowing just one Central Elkader hit. Viroqua Alderman Dave Tryggestad steps down, Mayor names replacement
VIROQUA, Wis. – Long time Viroqua Alderman Dave Tryggestad announced through a letter to the city council last month that he was stepping down as Ward 1 Alderman. Tryggestad has served as a representative for Ward 1 a couple of times over the years. Tryggestad was appointed in the council by then Mayor Larry Fanta in September of 2003 and and served until he resigned in December of 2011. He served again after being elected to the council in April of 2019 until his resignation on in June of this year. Tryggestad’s current term runs though April of 2025.
Five area Lions Clubs raise and donate nearly $11,000 to La Crosse Area Children’s Miracle Network and two local food pantries
VIROQUA, Wis. – Five Lions Clubs in our area including Coon Valley, Viroqua, St. Joseph Ridge, Cashton, and Westby clubs recently sponsored their 17th annual Lions Golf Tournament at the Viroqua Hills Golf Course. Together the five clubs raised money to donate to the La Crosse Area Children’s Miracle Network and two local food pantries.
