Fortuna High Huskies kick off Football season against Del Norte Warriors
The Huskies Football Team from Fortuna High is kicking off their season tonight, and they’re bringing a special brand of football to the field. “It’s a great opportunity to teach young men to be great people. And, you know, we put a lot of our time and energy into creating low level superheroes that are going to go out in the community and be great. The football part’s fun. But the life stuff is more important,” says head coach Mike Benbow.
Nearly 1 in 3 North Coast Students “Chronically Absent”
School is back in session along the North Coast, and i visited the Humboldt County Office of Education to see just why attending school is so important for local students. Gillian Townsend, a Licensed Social Worker for the Humboldt County Office of Education, told Redwood News, “Completing an education is really what leads to becoming a successful adult. The k-12 education is critical and necessary for higher education, but also for vocational programs and joining the military or even becoming an entrepreneur.”
