Athenians beat Mustangs in opener
A highly anticipated season for Crawfordsville boys’ tennis started Tuesday with a 4-1 win over Fountain Central. “We always know that Fountain Central has a good program,” Crawfordsville coach Craig Brainard said. “They had to make some changes with some injuries and that allowed us to have a good start, really all the way up and down the lineup.”

Colts to launch year two of Girls High School Flag Football League
The Colts created the league in 2023 with eight high school teams from Indianapolis and South Bend, Ind. This year, it will expand to 27 teams with five divisions across the state. The teams will compete in a three-week regular season, beginning with the Indy 1 Division on Aug. 24. All other divisions will begin play on Sept. 7.

CenterPoint Energy fined nearly $2 million for federal, Indiana pipeline violations
EVANSVILLE — CenterPoint Energy Indiana has agreed to pay a penalty of nearly $2 million to the state of Indiana for violations of federal pipeline law. The utility will pay $1,997,500 to the state's general fund, none of which can be recovered through customer rates, according to an Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission report issued last week. A brand new warning about the upcoming winter comes from an online forecaster who says Indiana can expect to get what he describes as the "worst of winter". If you're like me, you absolutely loathe winter weather. When you are a kid, it's cool because when it snows a lot (well, a lot for Indiana), you get the day off and enjoy playing in the snow. When you are an adult, you don't get that luxury. You are still expected to get out of that mess and drive to work. Throw in those frigid cold temperatures as another reason why I am not a fan of winter. Now, I realize that we haven't even gotten into fall, and the temperatures really haven't dropped too much yet. However, there are a lot of people who are already looking forward to winter weather here in Indiana.

Earlham College opens the new academic year today with its largest fall entering class in five years. The Class of 2028 features students hailing from 26 states and 29 countries. A Woman Gets Arrested For Taking Advantage Of Applebee's
A woman found herself in cuffs after sharing her “All You Can Eat” special at Applebee’s. Shawneesha Cobbs, 28, of Chicago, went to an Applebee’s in Indiana and got the $15.99 special, great deal right? Well she allegedly shared with the rest of her table, and that's a big no no. When the manager objected and charged the woman for two specials, they got into a heated argument, resulting in the police being called. The woman was warned by police that she could be charged with disorderly conduct and continued yelling until she was arrested.
