Six members of the McGough Construction family, the co-founder of Brighton Development and a former partner at Trammell Crow are the newest members of the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame.

The university’s Real Estate Advisory Board selected the 2024 inductees Peggy Lucas of Brighton, Kirtland “Kirt” Woodhouse of Trammell Crow and Charles, Leo, Larry, Greg, Tom and Peter McGough on the basis of their “transformational contributions to real estate, high standards of ethics and commitment to community improvement,” according to a press release.

The honorees will be inducted Nov. 13 at The Club in Golden Valley, formerly known as the Golden Valley Country Club. John Sweeney, an improv expert and founder of Brave New Outpost, will deliver the keynote speech.

Registration for the ceremony is open by clicking here .

The University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business submitted the following biographies of each new hall of famer. The biographies have been edited for space.

    Peggy Lucas

Peggy Lucas’ real estate development career can be defined by a passion for affordable housing, a strong desire to preserve the character of a neighborhood and an uncanny vision for hidden potential. A co-founder of Brighton Development Group, Lucas was among the first to see the potential of empty lots and abandoned warehouses that could be redeveloped into affordable modern housing that preserves historic ties such as the Mill District and East Hennepin.

Brighton Development is credited with projects resulting in the completion of more than 3,000 residential units and 200 development projects including Lourdes Square, Creamette Historic Lofts in the North Loop, projects in Elliott Park, and Cedar Riverside.

Lucas started a trend the loft warehouse wave through notable developments such as Stone Arch Lofts and Washburn Lofts. Her work has been a catalyst for the revival of the streetscape and the livability of downtown districts on both sides of the Mississippi River.

    Kirtland ‘Kirt” Woodhouse

As a regional partner and board member of Trammell Crow, Kirtland “Kirt” Woodhouse made a lasting impact on Minnesota’s commercial real estate landscape, by setting the standard for Class A office environments through the trend toward large suburban office parks offering high end amenities. He developed some of the most well-known and well-positioned properties in the Twin Cities such as the Carlson Center in Minnetonka, the Colonnade in Golden Valley, Eagan Woods Office Center and Normandale Lake Office Park in Bloomington.

Woodhouse oversaw Trammell Crow’s development in Minnesota, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Louisville. In Minnesota, he is credited with driving the development of more than 4.5 million square feet of property via office warehouses, bulk industrial spaces and various retail shopping centers, including the Midway district in St. Paul. His dedication to speculative development has played a pivotal role in economic growth in this region.

    The McGoughs

In 1956, Peter McGough and his six sons Larry, Tom Sr., Charles, Leo, Greg and Peter began building McGough Construction on a foundation of three principles: collaboration, integrity and craftsmanship.

This solid base helped McGough excel at complex projects including university campus facilities, tech manufacturing spaces, ag-industrial plants, hospitals and medical centers. McGough’s people-centric approach enabled the business to grow and become a top 150 general contractor in the U.S. and a seven-time TOPS Contractor of the Year Award recipient.

One of McGough’s first projects was building a church for the 110-year-old Saint John’s Abbey in Collegeville, Minnesota. This iconic structure is emblematic of McGough’s excellence in managing complex projects. Now in their 68th year of business, McGough enjoys a 90% ratio of repeat customers and serves numerous Fortune 500 companies like 3M, Ecolab, RBC, Cargill, Andersen Windows, Thrivent and the Federal Reserve Bank.
