Denny’s may be your go-to for a Grand Slam breakfast, but the restaurant chain is striking out in some locations.

The company is planning to close 15 locations by the end of 2024. That could be good news if you want to keep more cash in your wallet , but it's bad news if you love to eat at Denny’s.

So, is your Denny’s closing its doors? Check this list of confirmed closures to see if your favorite restaurant got the axe.

Save Money: 8 things to do if you want to eat out more

    1. Boise, Idaho

Travelers won’t be able to grab a meal at Denny’s before heading to the airport in Boise — the location at 2580 Airport Way has shut down.

    2. Chubbuck, Idaho

The Denny’s at 4310 Yellowstone Ave. in Chubbuck closed its doors back in February. The restaurant shut down four months after a location in Idaho Falls also permanently stopped serving customers.

    3. Nampa, Idado

Nampa also saw the closure of a Denny’s at 607 Northside Blvd. The location closed in March, with phones disconnected and the address pulled from the Denny’s website.

    4. Oakland, California

The Denny’s location at 601 Hegenberger Road in Oakland was closed permanently at the end of January due to safety concerns.

The move came after the closure of the nearby fast-food burger restaurant In-N-Out. Another restaurant in the area, Sugarsweet Bakery, locked its doors permanently due to crime, low foot traffic, and decreased sales.

    5. San Francisco, California

San Francisco lost its only Denny's restaurant on August 1. The 24-hour Denny's on 816 Mission Street, near Union Square, had been in operation for 25 years prior to its closure.

    6. Lubbock, Texas

Lubbock said goodbye to its Denny’s at 607 Ave. Q earlier this year, leaving local residents with only one Denny’s.

A sign on the shuttered restaurant doors directed customers to the Denny’s located on Slide Road.

    7. New Braunfels, Texas

New Braunfels residents were greeted with a sign on the door of their local Denny’s in January explaining that the location had shut its doors.

The sign at 1348 I-35 N. Frontage Road invited patrons to visit Denny’s in Kyle, Texas. The sign also included information about some of the staff who transferred to the Kyle restaurant so regulars would be aware that they could get their coffee and eggs from their favorite staff members.

    8. Ontario, Oregon

Residents of Ontario were greeted with a handwritten sign at the Denny’s at 76 E. Goodfellow St. to inform them of the restaurant’s closing. The shutdown of this location occurred in March.

    9. Worcester, Massachusetts

The Denny’s at 494 Lincoln St. in Worcester was officially closed in March. The location has struggled in recent years with an extended closure after pipes burst in the building and caused damage.

    10. Bucks County, Pennsylvania

    11. Ashland, Ohio

The Denny's on U.S. State Route 250 in Ashland, Ohio, closed on July 20, leaving 28 other locations in Ohio for lovers of the restaurant chain.

    12. Ontario, Ohio

The Denny's on 720 N. Lexington Springmill Road in Ontario, Ohio, closed on September 10. The location, which had been in operation since 1979, will be replaced by a Raising Canes.

    Why Denny's is closing locations

Inflation has hit Denny’s hard, and CFO Robert Verostek has said rising costs led to the restaurant closures.

According to Verostek, Denny’s restaurants now have to generate $1.2 million in revenue per year to remain open and viable. That number is up from $1 million before costs began to soar. The company has also forecasted sluggish same-store sales growth in 2024.

Denny's closed 25 restaurants in the first quarter of the year (24 of which were franchised and licensed) and 15 restaurants in the second quarter.

    About Denny's

Denny’s is headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina. There are more than 1,600 Denny’s and Keke’s Breakfast Cafe restaurants in the company’s corporate portfolio, according to the 2023 Denny’s corporate report.

The vast majority of these restaurants are franchised/licensed.

    Bottom line

If your favorite Denny’s is closing soon, you will have to look for a new location. The Denny’s mobile app or website can help you find other locations near you.

If you find one, remember that you can stretch your eating-out budget by signing up for Denny’s rewards program and scoring deals, discounts, and gifts.

Money tips that can work for everyone

No matter what your bank account balance is, there's always an opportunity to optimize and improve your finances. Here's a quick checklist of things you can look at today.

Focus on paying off your debt. Debt can hold you back from making progress with your overall financial well-being. Aside from cutting expenses, there are tools that can help you pay off debt faster like balance transfer credit cards and debt counseling.

Earning extra income can give you breathing room. If finances are tight, earning some extra money to supplement your income can make a huge difference. A new job is one option to consider, but if you're not ready to make a big change or already retired, a part-time side job could be a better choice.

Cut your expenses. It sounds painful and so not fun, but it doesn't have to be. Take a look at your biggest expenses because that's where you'll probably find the biggest savings. For example, auto insurance rates have been soaring so shopping around for a new insurance company can be the fastest way to cut your bill. Also, look for ways to cut your grocery bill (despite rising inflation).
