A Carroll County man charged with numerous trash fires was taken into custody Saturday for his alleged role in the arson of a commercial storage trailer, according to the Office of the Maryland Fire Marshal.

The incident occurred Friday around 4:01 p.m. when firefighters from the Reese Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding companies responded to 3154 Baltimore Blvd. in Finksburg, according to investigators.

Upon arrival, they observed a commercial storage trailer toward the rear of the address fully involved in flames, according to a news release from the fire marshal.

The fire took 30 minutes to control and resulted in $1,000 in damages, the news release said.

Investigators said they determined the fire to be arson after conducting an “origin and cause” investigation.

Deputy Fire Marshals along with Maryland State Police, Westminster Barack reviewed footage from numerous security cameras in the area where police say they observed a white male entering and exiting the trailer prior to the blaze.

According to police, the suspect was identified as Joseph Affayroux, 42, of Finksburg. Police said Affayroux was charged earlier by the Baltimore Environmental Police for setting numerous trash fires in the area of the Liberty Reservoir as well as a dumper fire in the area of Wards Chapel Road.

Deputy Fire Marshals obtained an arrest warrant for Affayroux for second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning and malicious destruction of property, according to the news release.

Maryland State Police from the Westminster Barack took Affayroux into custody Saturday and transported him to the Carroll County Detention Center where he is currently held without bond, according to the news release.
