Shedeur Sanders, 22, is the son of a football legend, but he’s had to earn his wins on and off the football field. The quarterback, who plays for the University of Colorado football team, recently shared that the values and mindset instilled in him at a young age have allowed him to succeed on his own merits.

    No Money From Dad?

“People say ‘what’s your plan B?’” Sanders told during a postgame press conference after Saturday’s come-from-behind 38-31 overtime victory over Baylor in Boulder. “No, it’s only football, that’s the only plan there is. I don’t have a trust fund, Dad ain’t set me up good like that.”

Dad is ex-football star turned star coach Deion Sanders , who has a net worth of $45 million, according to ClutchPoints. In December 2022, he signed a five-year, $29.5 million contract to coach the University of Colorado football team.

While no one knows if Shedeur was kidding about his wealthy father not setting up a trust fund for him, the young player has been busy building his own wealth, albeit with a few bumps and criticisms along the way.

Sanders, who has a estimated net worth of $5.1 million, showed his athletic prowess and team spirit when he overcame right sacks to rally the Buffaloes past Baylor. Sanders threw a Hail Mary touchdown pass at the end of regulation to set up Colorado to win in overtime.

Sanders, a senior at University of Colorado, has played at the school for two seasons. He began his college football career at Jackson State University, playing under his father there for two seasons. When Deion Sanders left Jackson State as head coach to assume the same position at Colorado, Sanders transferred as well. While critics may raise an eyebrow to Sanders’ privilege, the athlete’s abilities on the field show he merits his position. Although the Buffaloes only won four out of 12 games last football season, Sanders was considered a valuable member of the team, as he completed the season with 3,230 passing yards and 27 passing touchdowns. In the 11 games Sanders played, he also had three interceptions and four rushing touchdowns.

“It’s like we’re waiting for him to put on his cape and do what he does,” Deion Sanders once told The Associated Press. “That’s what he does every week.”

Shedeur Getting Paid For Work On The Football Field

Sanders is currently the highest-paid student athlete and the first to ink a deal with Nike. Other endorsements from Beats by Dre, Mercedes-Benz, and Oikos.  In 2022, he signed an endorsement deal with Gatorade, making him the first athlete from an HBCU to broker such a deal.
