Vivid Program With Three Authors Melds Art And Space Science at The Museum of Flight Seattle
PRESS RELEASE On July 27, at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, award-winning author Ron Miller and new Smithsonian coauthors Matthew Shindell and Margaret Weitekamp will lead a visual journey through the history of the spaceship in our collective imagination and in reality. Their program is based upon the new edition of their popular book, Spaceships: An Illustrated History of the Real and the Imagined. A book signing follows the program. Miller will be attending virtually, but signed bookplates will be provided so the books will bear the signatures of all three authors. The 2 p.m. event is presented as part of the Museum’s new Home Beyond Earth exhibition and is free with general admission. Spaceships: An Illustrated History of the Real and the Imagined explores how art and science have merged in the creation of real and fictional spaceships, from Mercury and Apollo spacecraft to Millennium Falcon and Starship Enterprise. This second edition is thoroughly updated to offer a complete history of spaceships. It builds off the original book with new information and developments in topics that include: Virgin Orbit’s LauncherOne Paul Allen’s Stratolaunch Systems Bigelow Aerospace’s B330 inflatable space stations SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Future Mars exploration, moon landers, and interstellar ships New foreword from Bobak Ferdowsi, an American Flight engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory New foreword from Kathryn D. Sullivan, geologist and former NASA astronaut who was the first American woman to spacewalk.
Seattle Schools Nourish Education with $100,000 USDA Farm to School Grant
The City of Seattle has good news for its public school system and local food producers, as it lands a nearly $100,000 USDA Farm to School grant. Detailing on the grant objectives, the investment aims to augment the capacity of Seattle Public Schools (SPS) Culinary Services, boost student access to food systems education, and up the ante on training for school garden practitioners, according to a post on greenspace.seattle.gov.

Lost dog found alone on Seattle ferry dock heads to a new home
A lost dog found without its owner on a ferry dock in Seattle last month has found a new home. Washington State Ferries (WSF) explained in an X post published Friday afternoon ferry workers found the canine alone at Colman Dock early on June 12. They took care of the animal while the agency, which is part of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), searched for his owner in an attempt to bring him home. At the time, the X post stated the dog was going to be “transferred to animal control soon.”

Seattle Reign open Summer Cup with one to enjoy
The Seattle Reign earned their first win since May 3rd and their third of the year over the Utah Royals, 2-1, in the opening game of the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup on Friday evening. The Reign, playing a largely rotated and youthful lineup, had the better of the Royals, who played most of the first-choice players they had available. After the match, Reign coach Laura Harvey told the players to enjoy the win because they had been in games where they had played better but had not found a way to win, but tonight they dug in and earned three points.

Seattle may jolt electric rates due to high demand as state pushes electrification
(The Center Square) – The City of Seattle is expecting rates for City Light customers to rise 5.4% next year due to increasing demand, extreme weather, and impacts of low-water flow on hydroelectric generation capacity, even as the state continues to push for a total transition to clean energy.
