Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker met privately with Bears CEO/President Kevin Warren on Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reported. The governor's office confirmed the meeting to the Tribune, telling the newspaper the meeting was "cordial" and was intended for them "to get to know each other." CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two of Chicago's major academic hospitals tied for first place as the best hospital in Illinois, according to a new ranking by U.S. News and World Report.Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University Medical Center tied for the top spot.The list ranks hospitals based on several specialties. Northwestern Memorial Hospital was nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties – including 7th for cardiology, heart & vascular surgery and 8th for diabetes and endocrinology – and rated high-performing in 21 adult procedures and conditions. Rush University Medical Center was nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties – including 7th for neurology and neurosurgery, 10th for geriatrics, and 10th for orthopedics – and rated high-performing in 18 adult procedures and conditions.University of Chicago Medical Center came in third. Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn was ranked as the fourth best, followed by Endeavor Health NorthShore Hospitals in Evanston, and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Thousands in Peoria area still without power after severe storms that included tornado
Ameren Illinois said Wednesday that it was making progress on restoring power to thousands of customers who were in the dark following severe storms Monday night. The company said in a statement that it had restored power to 92,000 customers across the state, with 9,424 outages being reported as of 1 p.m. Several areas in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties remain without power as a result of downed trees and power lines stemming from a derecho that swept through much of the state Monday night.

Laboratory schools staffers are the latest group to organize at ISU
For the first time in nearly 170 years, staff at Illinois State University’s Laboratory Schools, have formally moved to unionize. The Lab Schools Association, a group of around 120 staffers from Thomas Metcalf [pre-K to 8th grade] and University High schools, filed a petition for representation with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board [IELRB] in late June.
New deputy city manager is a familiar face in Bloomington
Bloomington City Manager Jeff Jurgens has a new deputy. Sue McLaughlin returns to Bloomington as Jurgens' number two along with current deputy Billy Tyus. McLaughlin was interim assistant city manager for the City of Bloomington 10 years ago and most recently served as city manager of Farmer City, a town of about 1,800 people located in northeast DeWitt County. McLaughlin has additional experience as city manager for Lincoln, Mattoon, North Aurora and Byron, Illinois.
