Restaurants: What's new or coming soon to Jacksonville's Westside, Orange Park, Northside
Even though we’ve seen some notable restaurant closings already this year, plenty of new restaurants have opened across Jacksonville – and even more are on the way. From burger, taco and pizza joints to Italian and Mexican restaurants to breakfast, brunch and buffet spots, the area’s dining scene is growing, from downtown to the Beaches to the Southside, Westside, St. Johns and more, not just the St. Johns Town Center, which has served as the destination for many restaurant chains entering the market over the last two decades.
Pet adoption drive held this week
It’s kitten season, when scores of vulnerable kittens and cats are flooding into already full shelters, looking for people to love. The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is partnering with PetSmart Charities to bring pets to the PetSmart store located at 8801 Southside Blvd. on July 20 and 21 in support of the 30th Anniversary National Adoption Week, taking place now through Sunday, July 21.

It’s been unusually hot in Jacksonville, and pets are feeling it, too! The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is sharing tips on keeping pets safe and cool this summer. In Florida, many of us are undeterred by exercising when it’s hot out, but our furry friends can’t tell us with words when they’re feeling overworked. On extra-hot days, only exercise your pet in the mornings and evenings when temperatures are at their lowest. If you must exercise your dog during the hottest hours, take care to keep them hydrated and walk them on grass rather than asphalt.
