Jelly Roll has definitely come up in the world. He’s quickly gone from former convict to country music darling. It all comes down to being honest about his past through his music and present choices. Now, a sheriff in Michigan is rewarding him for his journey by officially swearing him in as a deputy sheriff.
During a visit to the Genesee County Jail in Michigan on Saturday, July 27, Sheriff Chris Swanson swore Jelly Roll in as an official deputy sheriff. Jelly was at the jail for a ribbon cutting which opened a music studio for inmates. Jelly then performed at Tailgates ‘N Tallboys in Midland, Michigan.

“You have an ability to touch lives like nobody I’ve ever seen,” Sheriff Swanson told Jelly Roll, per a report from Midland Daily News. “It’d be my honor to extend a deputy status,” he continued, adding “He’s going to be sworn in today as a deputy sheriff for the County of Genesee, right here in Flint, Michigan, with his own badge and his own I.D.”
Jelly Roll then raised his right hand and swore the oath, laughing as if he couldn’t believe it was happening. Sheriff Swanson then presented him with a badge, saying, “Here’s your badge man, this is the real deal,” adding, “That’s second chances.”

Jelly Roll and MGK Surprise Fans in Milwaukee with New Collaboration
Jelly Roll recently surprised fans during his set at Milwaukee’s Harley-Davidson Homecoming by inviting Machine Gun Kelly out on stage to perform their new collaboration, “Lonely Road.” The song pays homage to John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Fans have been loving the new take on an old classic.
Additionally, Jelly Roll recently penned a heartfelt post to MGK celebrating the collaboration. “To my brother, I want you to know the positive energy radiating off of you,” Jelly wrote on Instagram. “I can’t even shower you with enough praises for how incredible it has been to watch you become one of the greatest most multifaceted songwriters and musicians in the game. Thank you for picking me to be on this one brother. This song was going to be hit no matter who you called I’m just honored it was me.”
