Florence native selected by Toronto Blue Jays in 9th round of MLB Draft

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — Colby Holcombe, a Florence native, was recently drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday.

Holcombe is a graduate of Central High School in Florence and was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 277th pick in the 9th round.

Holcombe spent his freshman year in college at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Mississippi, and was named a National Junior College All-American during his time there.

He also spent two seasons at Mississippi State University before entering the transfer portal on July 2. While at State, Halcombe earned recognition for the 2024 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll and 2023 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.

The assigned slot value for the 277th pick in the 9th round is $190,100.
