In an effort to keep teens safe during graduation and prom season the Florence Police Department will be at Florence High School to discuss drunk driving.

Students will see and participate in a mock DUI scenario, stated Florence Police Chief Bruce Walls in an email.

The event will take place at 9 a.m., Wednesday, May 1.

“The police department has been working with the Florence High School principal and staff on impairment driving and the consequences,” Walls stated.

Florence Police will be joined by the Florence Fire & Medical Department, the Pinal County Sherriff’s Office and the Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“It is our hope as our kids graduate and celebrate, they do that safely,” Walls stated.

Under Walls, the Florence Police Department has been working to connect with students on a personal level by making regular visits to all school campuses.
