Florence town staff has taken over maintaining the flower boxes that dot the sidewalks on Main Street.

The Adopt a Flower Box program was transitioned from volunteers to town staff on June 3, the same day the Florence Town Council recognized those who had  previously been maintaining the boxes.

“At this time, we would like to recognize and thank our Adopt a Flower Box volunteers who have graciously contributed their time, effort and green thumbs to maintain the flower boxes lining Main Street,” a council staff report stated. “Their dedication has undeniably enriched the aesthetic appeal and charm of our historic downtown. Their hard work has not gone unnoticed, and we will be forever grateful for the lasting impact you have made on our community.”

The following individuals and businesses were honored by the council:

    • The GEO Group
    • Caitlin Johnson
    • Kelly Williams
    • Shelly Bird
    • Michael Groves
    • Victoria Knight
    • Jessica Moran
    • Arianna Tamayo
    • Pecas Beebe
    • Teresa Graciano
    • Susan Reighley
    • Peytons Hidden Treasures
    • David and Jamie Lewis
    • Megan Wright
    • Melissa Cambell

The town took over caring for the flower boxes on Main Street in order to create a consistent look.

Under the original program, volunteers were expected to maintain the adopted flower box for a one-year period and agree to supply flowers/plants, water, fertilizer and, when necessary plant new flowers or plants, the town website stated.
