The Florence Unified School District has instituted precautions for students and staff at Florence K-8 and Florence High amid the town's water boil advisory.

School will resume as scheduled on Friday, and students and staff are being asked to bring water bottles filled with safe, boiled or bottled water from home.

"For those who are unable to bring their own water, the schools will provide bottled water. We have ensured an adequate supply of bottled water is available at both school sites to accommodate everyone in need," the district stated in a Facebook post.

FUSD is working with the town to monitor the situation and its maintenance teams are marking all water dispensers and taps at the schools to remind everyone of the advisory.

On Wednesday, a water main break at Main and 22nd streets caused a systemwide shutdown. The town issued the boil advisory as precaution in case contaminants had gotten into the water.

On Thursday, the town declared that no "known contaminants were introduced into the system and the likelihood (that) contaminants are present is low."

Water samples were collected and submitted to a lab on Thursday and the results are expected to be available on Friday, according to the town.

"Once we have confirmation no contaminants are present, the boil advisory will be lifted," the post continued.
