Carrie Underwood Returns For 12th Year To Open NFL’s Sunday Night Football

Carrie Underwood fans, it looks like she'll be returning to Sunday Night Football! The country singer is scheduled to perform “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” for the big kick off in September. This will be Carrie Underwood's 12th consecutive year opening the NFL season on NBC.

The exciting start to the football season will take place before the Los Angeles Rams vs. Detroit Lions game on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Enthusiastic fans can watch the kickoff, airing on both NBC and Peacock. The announcement was made on social media. The American Idol alumni has performed the song since 2013, when she took over for fellow country crooner, Faith Hill. “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night” is a re-worked rendition of Joan Jett’s 1988 hit “I Hate Myself For Loving You.” The current iteration was the original theme song choice in 2006 before NBC decided to experiment with a few other tunes. The network finally returned to the Jett remake in 2019 and hasn’t wavered since.'' as stated on American Songwriter.
