Florence Copper awards $9K in grants to local organizations

Florence Copper and the Florence Copper Community Foundation have awarded $9,000 in grants to local organizations for the second quarter of 2024.

“We are honored to contribute to such worthy causes and are committed to making a meaningful difference in our community,” stated John Mays, general manager of Florence Copper, in a company press release. “These grants reflect our dedication to supporting education, the environment, animal welfare, emergency services and the overall well-being of Florence residents.”

A $1,500 grant was awarded to Poston Butte High School to renovate the teachers and staff lounge.

Friends of Pinal County Animal Shelter & Rescues received a $2,000 grant to support its spay/neuter voucher program. This program encourages Pinal County residents to spay or neuter their pets by subsidizing the cost of the procedure, ultimately reducing the number of unwanted animals turned into and found by Pinal County Animal Care and Control.

The South Florence Volunteer Fire Department received a $2,500 grant to help in its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the local community. The funds will be used to purchase essential personal protective equipment for department members.

A $1,500 grant was awarded to the FUSD Community Education for its Backpack Drive initiative. This program provides students with backpacks filled with school supplies, ensuring that all children have the tools they need to succeed academically.

Friends of the Casa Grande Ruins will officially receive a $1,500 grant to support the third phase of the Casa Grande Ruins Pollinator Gardens. In March 2023, the Florence Copper Community Foundation helped support the initial phases of the project through a $1,000 grant award.
