Man faces attempted murder charges after allegedly firing 30 rounds in shooting near Florence apartment complex

FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — A 20-year-old is facing attempted murder charges after a shooting near the parking lot of a Florence apartment complex, police said on Monday.

Juelz Hood of Lancaster, South Carolina, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Officers were in the area of N. Coit Street on Sunday when they heard multiple gunshots near their location, according to police. As they searched the area, they heard several more gunshots near Darlington and Coit streets.

When they were searching the 200 block of N. Coit Street, officers found both witnesses and victims in the parking lot of the Coit Village apartments, police said. The victims told them that Hood had been in the parking lot making threats while brandishing a gun.

Hood left the parking lot, and they heard gunshots shortly after, but did not see him, according to police. Hood then came back and allegedly fired a gun in their direction. He left again before officers had arrived.

Shortly after, Hood’s vehicle was found near Irby and Evans streets, and police said he was detained without incident. An arrest warrant shows police found a 10mm gun under his driver’s seat, which he fired about 30 rounds from in the shooting.

No injuries or property damage were reported.
