FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — Atter nearly two years of work, Francis Marion University is nearing the end of $80 million worth of upgrades that its president says will help meet the needs for future generations of students.

“The people in this region and community have worked with this university a long, long time to make sure that it was one of the most efficient and effective in the state,” president Fred Carter said.

Just a few months after its groundbreaking, a $23 million School of Business and Education building is nearly complete. The 54,000-square-foot facility boasts new classrooms and a modern computer lab.

There’s also a 4,400-square-foot engineering workshop that’s almost finished. That offers industrial space for design projects. FMU’s gymnasium, university center and weight room have also been enhanced.

After just a few months of breaking ground, the $23 million dollar School of Business and Education building is almost ready for the fall semester. The building is 54,000 square feet and features new spacious classrooms and a modern computer lab.

Carter said several more additions are in the pipeline over the next several years.
