A suspected Proud Boy from Florida allegedly seen on video shoving a police officer’s riot shield at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 has been arrested, authorities said.

Troy Vincent Garrett, 48, faces charges of assaulting officers, civil disorder, trespassing, and disorderly conduct, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release .

In his black jacket, olive drab green pants, tan backpack and baseball cap with red lettering reading “GTG,” he and other Proud Boys members gathered at the Washington Monument that day when former President Donald Trump supporters poured into the area for the “Stop the Steal” rally to disrupt the certification of President Joe Biden’s 2020 electoral win, according to a statement of facts that lays out the allegations.

He can be seen in a photo surrounded by rioters near a line of police trying to block rioters from advancing. His arms are outstretched as he stands in front of a black and white flag reading, “Trump 2020 F— Your Feelings.”

At one point, he allegedly reached around a rioter and shoved an officer’s riot shield with his right hand before retreating into the crowd.

The force of the shove caused the officer’s right hand to come loose from the riot shield, and he had to step back to the edge of the step behind him, court documents said.

When the police line at that spot on the Lower West Plaza was reinforced by Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers, Garrett allegedly remained close to that line. Then at one point, the statement of facts says, rioters maneuvered over their heads a large blue billboard reading, “TRUMP 2020 KEEP AMERICA GREAT!”

As rioters drove the billboard into the police line, Garrett can be seen holding his phone in front of him with the billboard behind, court documents said. He then allegedly placed his right hand on the black backpack of a rioter who was pushing the billboard as if he was “supporting, pushing, or bracing against the other rioter” before placing his hand on the back of another rioter, the statement of facts said.

Authorities allege Garrett remained inside the restricted area of the grounds until after 4 p.m. before moving to the north side of the Capitol building.

Anonymous citizens tipped off the FBI that the suspect was a member of the Proud Boys, court documents said. The nationalist organization describes itself as a “pro-Western fraternal organization for men who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world,” court documents said.

In the 41 months since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 1,450 people have been charged with crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, authorities said .
