AUBURNDALE -- Governor Ron DeSantis visits a state Department of Transportation site, promoting road improvements along the Interstate 4 corridor in Orange, Osceola and Polk Counties as part of the 14-billion dollar "Moving Florida Forward" program.

Those include plans to add a lane from Championsgate to World Drive in Osceola County in the next year.

DeSantis says much of the focus has been on Central Florida, particularly the Orlando area, as having the greatest need due to growth. He says I-4 improvements will eventually roll from coast to coast, including the Tampa Bay area.

The governor also asserts the state hasn't gotten its fair share of infrastructure funding under the Biden administration, because he refuses to accept the strings attached with funding.

The Florida Department of Transportation has opened a website denouncing the Biden infrastructure plan . The White House says the plan has sent more than seven billion dollars to Florida for road improvements.

DeSantis also spoke about a jury recommending death for the Sebring mass shooter by a 9-3 vote. The governor calls the recommendation a "just punishment" . He says the law he signed last year, reducing death penalty recommendations from a unanimous vote to eight out of twelve, keeps individual jurors opposed to capital punishment from "kneecapping' the process.
