Florida is preparing for the arrival of Tropical Storm Debby , which is forecasted to bring torrential rain and gusty winds this weekend. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued tropical storm warnings and watches for parts of the state, from East Cape Sable to Bonita Beach, and parts of the Florida Keys. The warning indicates that tropical storm conditions are expected within 36 hours, while the watch means these conditions are possible within 48 hours.

The system, currently designated as Potential Tropical Cyclone Four, is expected to develop into Tropical Depression Four by Saturday morning and then into Tropical Storm Debby before making landfall in Florida on Sunday or Sunday night. The storm is then forecasted to track near the Southeast coast early next week, where it could intensify again if it remains over water.

According to The Weather Channel , there is a possibility that the system might slow down or even stall somewhere near the Southeast coast, which could prolong impacts. The main threat from the storm is expected to be heavy rainfall, with totals of 4 to 8 inches (locally up to 12 inches) possible in spots across Florida and along the Southeast coast through Wednesday morning.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 54 of Florida's 67 counties ahead of the storm. Residents are encouraged to prepare for the storm and follow all guidance issued by local emergency management officials.
