    Pedestrian killed on Florida Turnpike after being hit by SUV, tractor-trailer

    A fatal early-morning crash on the Florida Turnpike that blocked all northbound lanes during the morning rush hour has now been cleared.

    The crash took place shortly before 3:45 a.m. Aug. 15 on the northbound Turnpike at mile marker 261, which is just north of Interstate 4 in Orlando, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

    Preliminary evidence shows the crash involved a 2024 Hyundai Kona SUV, a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian, according to Trooper Migdalisis Garcia, FHP assistant public affairs officer.

    What happened in fatal crash on Turnpike?

    According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, a 2024 Hyundai Kona driven by a 37-year-old male from Gulfport, Mississippi, was going north on the Turnpike in the center outside lane when a pedestrian crossed the Turnpike directly in his path.

    The Hyundai Kona hit the pedestrian, causing him to land in the outside lane in the path of a tractor-trailer driven by a 56-year-old male from Orlando.

    The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The tractor-trailer driver wasn't injured and those in he Hyundai Kona, including the driver, a woman and two children, also weren't injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.

    The crash remains under investigation.
