Meatless Monday or wingless Wednesday: Brevard boasts diverse (and filling) vegan options

Plant-based and satisfying? It's quite possible: We have some great options across Brevard County.

Dining-out options can be difficult, however, when someone you love has eating restrictions. We set out to find a few places that are plant-based and have menu items that prove much more satiating than a bowl of lettuce with some balsamic on the side.

Entrepreneurs Lauren and Christos Karaguovanis are no strangers to plant-based food. Pucker Up Vegan Eatery food truck is on a brief summer hiatus, while MoonShine PBK, just opened in July. A new brick and mortar spot located at 307 Delannoy Ave. in Cocoa Village serves up a full-service vegan menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

After four years of being turned down for places to rent (due to fear of failure because of the plant-based premise) owners finally secured the old Cyprus Table location.

"Ninety-five percent of our supporters are not vegan, they just love our food," said Lauren Karaguovanis. Guest favorites include the fried Greek meatballs, served with whipped feta and sundried tomato vinaigrette drizzle and the vegan filet, accompanying mashed and Brussels sprouts with a bearnaise sauce.

Moonshine is not actually available; you'll have to ask them about the name. However, they do a sizable selection of local beer and wine to enjoy, as well as handmade desserts.

Owners credit the support from the village and look to give back by sourcing their food and beverage locally. If you are looking for an upscale eatery that is passionate about food, ambiance and humanity, MoonShine PBK is for you.

What are some other fully vegan choices in Brevard?

Located in Melbourne, Paisley Vegan Kitchen , 2447 N. Wickham Road, has a flair for comfort food. Piled-high nachos, chicken parmesan subs and the falafel waffle pita are fun and tasty options to try. They are fantastic bakers, so you must check out their daily dessert options, especially the donuts.

Anna's Vegan Plate offers a full vegan menu, with Asian-style flair. You can find them at 3200 Dixie Highway NE, in Palm Bay. Try the Eggplant Tofu with brown rice or Pad Thai with "chicken" and you can add some extra spice or gluten-free options too. Flan or cheesecake choices for the grand finale will leave even the choosiest of eaters pleased.
