    Want to win the Florida Lottery? Publix sells more winning tickets than any other retailer

    There were 49 Florida Lottery winners in September. The month came in with the fewest number of lottery winners so far this year.

    February, the month with the fewest days, leads the year with 81 winners.

    The biggest Florida lottery winners in September were two winning Powerball tickets worth $1 million, along with a $1 million Mega Millions ticket.

    Is there a way to increase the odds of winning one of the Florida Lottery games ? Where were all those winning tickets sold? Are your chances higher if you allow the machine to pick your numbers? Does Publix really sell more winning tickets than any other retailer? And what about city; does that count?

    We tracked all the winners in the various drawings — Powerball , Mega Millions , Lotto, Jackpot Triple Play, Cash4Life and Fantasy 5 — held in September to answer those questions.

    How many Florida Lottery winners were there in September 2024?

    In September, there were 49 winners in the drawings held between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, coming in far below the the number who won in August.

    In August, there were 67 winners in the drawings held between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31.

    Compare September winners to those earlier this year:

    Twenty-four of all the winning tickets sold in September were quick pick.

    In September, there were six days when there were no winners in any of the draw games, with the exception of Cash Pop and the Pick games, including the day Hurricane Helene made landfall near Perry, on Sept. 26.

    So far, the only month in 2024 with at least one winner every day was February.

    How many winning tickets were sold at Publix in September?

    For the eighth month in a row, more winning Florida Lottery tickets were sold at Publix than any at other retailer.

    Here are the top retailers in September with at least two sales:

    • Publix: 17
    • 7-Eleven: 3
    • Walmart, Walmart Market: 2

    Publix has been the top retailer every month so far: January (16), February (37) , and March (25) , April (26) , May (20), June (23) , July (18) , August (21) and September (17).

    What Florida city had the most lottery winners in September?

    Here are the cities in September — with at least two sales — where the most winning lottery tickets were sold:

    • Miami, Miami Gardens, North Miami, West Miami: 10
    • Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach: 3
    • Orlando: 2
    • Defuniak Springs: 2
    • Hialeah: 2
    • Hollywood: 2
    • Naples: 2

    Miami, Miami Gardens, North Miami, Miami Shores, West Miami have been the top locations for winning tickets every month in 2024, but in April, shared the lead with Port St. Lucie, and in August shared the lead with Orlando.

    If you buy a lottery ticket at a Publix in Miami do odds of winning the lottery improve?

    Of the 10 winning lottery tickets sold in Miami in September, only one was sold at a Publix supermarket, the one in West Miami.

    What Florida Lottery game saw the most winners in September?

    Not surprisingly, most winners were playing Fantasy 5. There were 44 winners — out of the 49 total winners — in September, compared to 56 winners in August.

    Twenty-one of the Fantasy 5 winners opted for the quick pick option of having the machine pick their numbers.

    What other games had winners in September?

    Other than Fantasy 5, there were winners in these games:

    • Cash4Life: A Pennsylvania ticket was worth $1,000 a week for life.
    • Powerball : A Texas ticket won a $800 million jackpot. Florida winners included two $1 million tickets sold in Defuniak Springs and Orlando.
    • Mega Millions: A ticket sold in Chipley was worth $1 million.

    The biggest winner of the month was a Powerball ticket sold in Texas that was worth $800 million.

    The largest Florida winners were two Powerball tickets worth $1 million each and a Mega Millions ticket also worth $1 million.

    What was the biggest Fantasy 5 jackpot in September?

    The biggest Fantasy 5 winner in September was the $121,411 ticket sold Sept. 20 at a Publix in Hollywood.

    What was the smallest Fantasy 5 jackpot won in September?

    The smallest Fantasy 5 winner during the month were three tickets playing the same number on Sept. 7. The tickets were worth $32,125. They were sold at a Publix in Jacksonville Beach, a Race Trac in Orlando and another Publix in West Miami.

    How many quick pick tickets won in September lottery drawings?

    Twenty-four winners in September opted for the quick pick option, with the biggest winners the Mega Millions ticket and two Powerball tickets, all worth $1 million.

    • Prizes of $599 or less: Claim at any authorized Florida Lottery retailer or Florida Lottery district office.
    • Prizes for $600 to $1 million: Must be claimed in person at any Florida Lottery district office for games that do not offer an annual payment option.
    • Prizes greater than $1 million and all prizes with an annual payment option: Must be claimed at Florida Lottery headquarters, except Mega Millions and Powerball prizes, which can be claimed at any Florida Lottery district office.

    You also can claim your winnings by mail if the prize is $250,000 or less. Mail your ticket to the Florida Lottery with the required documentation.

    If you’re a winner, Florida law mandates the following information is public record:

    • Full name
    • City of residence
    • Game won
    • Date won
    • Amount won
    • Name and location of the retailer where the winning ticket was purchased.

    When are the Florida Lottery drawings held?

    • Powerball: 10:59 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
    • Mega Millions: 11 p.m. Tuesday and Friday.
    • Florida Lotto: 11:15 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday.
    • Jackpot Triple Play: 11:15 p.m. Tuesday and Friday.
    • Cash4Life: 9 p.m. daily.
    • Fantasy 5: Daily at 1:05 p.m. and 11:15 p.m.
    • Cash Pop: Daily at 8:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 2:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 11:45 p.m.
    • Pick 2, 3, 4, 5: Daily at 1:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.
