Visionaries wanted to merge innovation and art

The Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) invites creative minds from across the globe — visionaries, innovators, creators and futurists — to propose design concepts for engaging, transformational art installations to be built along the banks of the Caloosahatchee in downtown Fort Myers.

The goal of Innovation Walk is to marry innovation with art, transforming and populating a meandering, mile-long waterfront park pathway with enduring installations and experiences that intrigue curiosity and celebrate human innovation. In its call for creators, the CRA seeks talented innovators, designers and creators to develop meaningful, durable and engaging installations that provide the pedestrian viewers with experiences stimulating critical contemplation, curiosity and hope.

The project requirements focus on the previous work of the artists, their concepts, visual representations, construction plans, budget and timeline considerations. Designs must be robust and capable of withstanding harsh conditions.

Proposals must be submitted electronically to innovationwalk@cityftmyers.com by May 2. Commissions will be awarded in May 2024 and the project must be designed, produced and installed within eight months of the award. The goal for full completion of the project is January 2025.

    Contact innovationwalk@cityftmyers.com for specific information.

    LeeTran announces seasonal schedule changes

Several LeeTran routes will return to non-seasonal schedules including the Fort Myers Beach seasonal tram and the River District trolley lines, beginning Thursday, April 25. Some routes will experience route and mapping updates to improve connectivity and on-time performance.

    Details are as follows:

    1. Fort Myers Beach seasonal tram service will end Wednesday, April 24.

    2. The Fort Myers River District Trolleys (Blue 500 and Gold 505 lines) will end seasonal service on Wednesday, April 24.

    3. Routes 30, 40, 70, 140 and 590 will have slight time adjustments for improved connectivity at transfer centers.

    4. Route 10 will now have greater access to Palm Beach Boulevard and the Terry Park area via Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard.

    5. Route 20 previously only traveled as far east as Michigan Avenue Link at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard but will now make a connection at Dr. Martin Luther

King Jr. Boulevard and Ortiz Avene. This will now allow connection to Route 5 to the Forum or to the Lehigh Acres area. Riders can also now use this route to connect to the Forum and Lehigh Acres from Rosa Parks Transportation Center, adding convenience for those traveling east.

    6. Route 100 will have improved on-time performance along Palm Beach Boulevard by streamlining the east/west direction of the route. Route 100 will no longer divert from Palm Beach Boulevard to travel the Michigan Link area. The area of Michigan Avenue Link previously covered by Route 100 will continue to be served by Routes 15 and 20.

Complete details about these changes, as well as updated schedules, can be found at RideLeeTran.com or by calling customer service team at 239-LEE-TRAN.

TLC Marketing & Creative hosts Mother’s Day Jewelry Drive

To spread joy and warmth this Mother’s Day, TLC Marketing & Creative Services, a local Bonita Springs marketing company, is embarking on a heartfelt mission. The firm is asking community members to sift through their jewelry boxes and donate those forgotten treasures for a beautiful cause.

Trish Leonard, founder of TLC Marketing, is an integral part of the Student Advisory Committee (SAC) at Bonita Springs Elementary School, which reflects on the unconditional love parents show their children.

“Every interaction during SAC meetings reinforces the depth of parental love; it’s truly moving,” Leonard says. “I listen to parents and teachers speak in Spanish and English, and it’s heartwarming to see how involved they are in the meetings and the school.”

TLC’s jewelry drive will run through April 30, with a team of dedicated volunteers poised to sort through the donations. On Wednesday, May 8, the children can handpick these treasures, each piece destined to become a cherished gift wrapped with love.

In collaboration with Adams Food Group, the local McDonald’s franchise is extending a special treat for single dads: a chance to share Happy Meals with their families. In addition, the local Bonita Springs Rotary Club heard about the program and is now collecting jewelry from its members.

For those who want to contribute to this cause, donations can be dropped off at the TLC Marketing & Creative Services Office at 9148 Bonita Beach Rd., Suite 201, Bonita Springs (Sunshine Plaza). For more information, reach out to Trish Leonard at 239- 405-8115 or via email at trish@trishleonard.com . ¦
