AI is quickly changing students’ careers and jobs… now

Imagine a world where anything that is repeatable will be automated and robots will be helping doctors. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way we work, and it will affect the jobs your kids will have someday. But don’t worry, there’s good news, too. New exciting careers are also emerging alongside.

Over the past century, we experienced revolutions that changed the world. Industrial, electrical, computer and now the Industrial Revolution that is driven by AI. Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the world, and the job market is no exception. AI is already being used to automate numerous tasks in a variety of industries, and this trend is only going to grow exponentially in the years to come.

It’s imperative that parents and students need to understand this today!

According to a report by McKinsey & Company, up to 800 million jobs globally could be lost to automation by 2030, with 73 million of that in the U.S. However, it is important to note that not all of these jobs will be lost permanently. Some jobs will simply be transformed as AI takes over some of the tasks, but humans are still needed to do other tasks, such as electrical, mechanical, repairing and construction services — some will desperately be needed in the robot industry.

Some of the jobs that are most at risk of being automated by AI include: customer service representatives, data entry clerks, factory workers, retail cashiers and receptionists, just to name a few. However, AI will also create many new jobs. These new jobs will require new skills and knowledge, so it is especially important for students to be prepared for the future of work.

Some of the new jobs that are expected to be created by AI include: data scientists, AI engineers, robotics engineers, cybersecurity experts, virtual reality and augmented reality developers, health care, financial and environmental AI experts. In addition, the industry will need skills to build and support AI products and services — electrical and mechanical skills, metallurgists, linguistics, programmers and field service reps. These are just a few examples of the many new jobs that will be created by AI. The specific jobs that are created will vary depending on the industry and the pace of technological advancement… but it is inevitable.

    Parents, prepare your children

There are a few things parents can do to help ensure the future success and happiness of their children in the age of AI.

    1) Take computer classes early on in high school, or after school

    2) Be lifelong learners

    3) Be able to learn new things quickly and easily

    4) Help children develop a strong work ethic

    5) Develop a positive attitude toward change

    6) Develop strong communication and collaboration skills

    7) Embrace change and foster new skills

    8) Strive to be flexible and adaptable. Help them develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills that will help them thrive in the world of AI.

In college, encourage them to develop skills in every aspect of computers. Expose them to AI-powered tools and technologies to help them get comfortable with AI and learn how to use it to their advantage. If the student selects a business/industry major in college, he or she should select computer-based minor subjects.

If the student selects a technical major, he should select as many business-based minors. The student who brings both sides of the table to an interview will have a major advantage in the hiring process. Understand that hiring companies will search for the right hires across the U.S. and in many growing cases, globally. Assure students that they can survive and succeed in this changing landscape.

By taking these steps, parents can help their children prepare for the future of work and succeed in a world of AI as well as helping reach a financial ROI in their children’s future success and happiness.

The impact of AI on students’ careers and jobs is complex. However, it is clear that AI will have a significant impact on the way we work. By understanding its impact and taking steps to prepare their children, parents can help them succeed in the precipitously and changing world of AI globally. ¦
