Attorneys Lindsay S. C. Brinton and Meghan S. Largent from the Federal Takings & Rails to Trails practice of law firm Lewis Rice will host educational meetings at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Estero, Florida, on Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14. They will discuss the potential compensation claims of landowners who own property adjacent to the Bonita Estero Rail Trail. This proposed $82 million rail-trail conversion would turn 14.9 miles of an abandoned Seminole Gulf Coast railway section from Alico Road to Collier County into a hiking and biking trail. Hundreds of local landowners may be eligible for compensation from the federal government for taking their land.

At the informational meetings, the attorneys will explain why and how a claim can be made against the federal government, the timing, how landowners will be represented in pursuing their takings claims, how compensation will be determined, and answer questions. Each meeting below is free and open to the public.

    Monday, May 13: 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday, May 14: 9 a.m. Embassy Suites by Hilton Fort Myers Estero

10450 Corkscrew Commons Dr, Estero, FL, at 12 p.m.

Brinton and Largent have helped other landowners nationwide obtain compensation for similar property takings. They have recovered more than $10 million for landowners in Sarasota County, Florida, whose property was seized for the construction of the Legacy.

About Lewis Rice’s Federal Takings & Rails to Trails practice

Lewis Rice’s federal takings attorneys represent landowners throughout the United States pursuing takings claims against the federal government. One primary focus of the group is representing landowners in what is commonly referred to as rails to trails takings. Attorneys in this group litigate cases in the United States Court of Federal Claims on behalf of those whose property was taken by the federal government under the National Trails System Act, which authorizes abandoned railroad lines to be converted into public parks. The goal is to obtain compensation from the government for taking their land for the public recreational trail. The attorneys in the Federal Takings Practice Group focus on proving the taking has occurred and establishing the value of the property taken. Their national work for landowners includes representing landowners coast-to-coast, including 11 states. ¦
