Oga's Cantina Now 5 Years Old - Current Review

A popular saying we may have heard is time flies when you are having fun, and while it is never all fun we were shocked that Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios has been open since August 2019. One of the most misunderstood portions of this area is the culinary options and the places in which you could obtain such treats. One thing Disney has done this year at Oga's was raise the prices on many of the cocktails, but let's take a look at what is going on there today. Disney for its part did an outstanding job of creating an immersive world inside of an existing theme park. As part of the live your adventure marketing, the Galactic Starcruiser was an amazing and short lived component of it. While Galaxy's Edge does maintain plenty of opportunities to interact with the characters and hidden fun we feel it did not maintain the level that was originally promised in the marketing materials.

One of the things we as guests were really excited about was the food and drink at Galaxy's Edge. Because the Disney Imagineers and Culinary teams had a daunting task ahead of them we knew it wasn't going to be perfect. A challenge they probably did not anticipate, but we have witnessed on multiple occasions is many guest seem to really struggle with the names and the actual offerings in front of them. As we are about to explore even Oga's Cantina has had its share of issues with guest expectations. Spoiler alert - If you booked a reservation at Oga's for a sitdown dinner it is not happening. The cantina's food options are limited to a super fancy charcuterie board (Happabore Sampler) and snack chips (Batuu Bits) and some jello desserts with (Rodian Ration) and without booze (Oga's Obsession).

After five years Disney still continues to update, adjust and attempt to hit the sweet spot with guests who are simply in the park all the way to diehard Star Wars fans. The best way to get in the ballpark or theme park in this case is usually over a drink with some music, lets head over to Oga's and take a look at some of the options.

After a long and probably hot day at the park, you may feel like you need a drink! If Oga's is your spot, make sure you have a reservation or have asked in advance to be added to a walk up list if it is open for new travelers. As a reminder there are no entrees here, it is not a sit down restaurant. It is also important to let the cast know if you require a seat, as you can see below it is a bar atmosphere and you may get a standing location unless you specify early. Also kids tend to not like standing at a bar.

The atmosphere for a Star Wars fan is outstanding, and it remains engaging the entire time. Although recently the cast working at the time of visit can either really dive in to the role or simply serve drinks and exist. You can tilt the experience if you indulge in the role play aspect.

We were served immediately with a smile and witty banter, all things we believe make the experience elevated. There were Star Wars puns, easter eggs and well a few drinks along with some Jedi level guidance or maybe it was Sith steering us either way it was fun!

The Outer Rim was a really refreshing riff on a margherita. It was made with Patron Silver, Pomegranate liqueur, lime juice, pure cane sugar with a black salt rim and exotic fruit puree.

If you are a wine drinker, both options are really good! We expected a cheap wine as you often find in these types of places but at $17 a glass current day for the Imperial Guard (Red Wine) that has a deep flavor and is always fresh. In terms of affordable wines at Disney this is a highly recommended drink. The Toniray (white wine) is actually a really cool blue color and has an apple undertone that was so refreshing and a $14 represented a wonderful value. Quite a few people asked what we were drinking!

You may hear some Star Wars classics as well as newer hits from the galaxy if you hang around long enough, they still provide 45 minutes to do damage to your liver and your wallet.

A super fun drink to experience is the Fuzzy Tauntaun which has Ketel One Botanical Peach and Orange Vodka, Peach Schnapps, OJ and Tangerine topped off with a numbing foam made from herbal ingrediants.

The beers are all made by reputable breweries and do not dissappoint. While I prefer the Gamorrean Ale, the Gold Squadron Lager drinks like an IPA light which is really refreshing in the heat. Be aware the harvest brew is actually a sour beer, if that is not in your drink wish list make sure to take a pass.

There is a bunch of really cool options for those who do not wish to Buzz With Your Cuz and of course those under 21.

There is a pretty good chance your kids will love the carbon freeze, which comes bubbling and popping! Also the Batuu Bits are an approachable snack for the party as well.

We can also recommend the Yub Nub, that comes with this awesome mug to take home with you, as a traveler protip they will sell this drink without the mug, they can also sell the mug with a different drink. As it is a Malibu pineapple rum and Sailor Jerry's pack the flavor and the punch in this drink.

You may share a table with other travelers, which can be fun if both groups are social. When it gets late sometimes it is a challenge if the other folks want to over or under engage.

If you have a chance to experience Oga's at night, you will get the added benefit of lower crowds and some amazing night time photoes when the area really shines.

Getting down to the end of the night, we were not sure if it was our vision or the low lighting that was blurry but we know that it was probably time for one more drink before hitting the pavement in search of a place to stay.
