Designer Maggie Griffin Helps A Young Family Refresh Their North Georgia Farmhouse
Sometimes you don’t know what you’re looking for until it falls in your lap. This was the case for Staci and Mack Vinton, who weren’t actively searching for a home when they got a call about this 1979 farmhouse in the heart of Gainesville, Georgia. “I’d met with a real estate agent a few years prior and told him, ‘Take me into the country, and give me a few acres with a creek. Or put me downtown for the convenience of living there,’ ” says Mack. “When he called and said, ‘I have a house with everything you want,’ we immediately went to see it.”
Oscarville's Hidden History: How a Forsaken Town Under Lake Lanier Inspired Art and Academia
This is Athens News Matters. I'm Alexia Ridley. Lake Lanier is well-known as the site of mysterious deaths, but a lesser-known history is that of Oscarville, an abandoned town lying under the lake's surface. In the early 20th century, the town was at the center of an outbreak of racial violence that resulted in most Black residents of Forsyth County fleeing for their lives. Over the past several years, Oscarville has inspired several works of art. WUGA's Emma Auer sat down with Alan Spain and Sean Arrillaga, two members of the Nashville and New Orleans band Slow Motion Riders, to discuss their 2023 single "Oscarville," based on the town's tragic history. They were joined by Joshua Byrd, a professor of criminal justice and Atlanta native, who consulted for a 2022 miniseries about the town entitled "Oscarville: Below the Surface." Here's that conversation:
Second Gentleman’s Atlanta event postponed
ATLANTA — Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff’s trip to Atlanta has been postponed. On Monday, Emhoff and actor BD Wong were set to hold a roundtable event in Gwinnett County for the AANHPIs for Biden-Harris initiative, a focused effort to reach Asian Americans, native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. Emhoff had planned to discuss lowering healthcare costs. On Sunday, the White House announced that the roundtable would be rescheduled. There was no immediate update as to when the event would take place.

Railroad Earth Announce Fall 2024 Tour Dates

Following night one, the bluegrass-influenced jammers will take their live show through Southern-located stops ahead of their ascent along the East Coast. On the road, the band will welcome support from special guests such as Arkansauce, Big Richard and Twisted Pine at select locations.
