Floyd County Community Foundation awards $4,000 in scholarships
The Floyd County Community Foundation has announced in a statement it has awarded scholarships totaling $4,000 to Betsy Lane High School seniors during their recent awards ceremony. The scholarships were funded by the Dr. Bertee (Bert T.) and Mrs. Retta Faye (Jett) Adkins Scholarship fund, advised by the Floyd County Community Foundation and held at the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky.

KSP: Vehicle pursuit ends in crash
A Floyd man was arrested on several charges recently after, police said, he led them on a vehicle pursuit that ended when he collided with another vehicle. According to an arrest citation written by Trooper Billy Ball, on May 20, he was on patrol in the Ivel area when he saw a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling at 62 mph in a 55 mph zone. The vehicle, Ball wrote, also merged into traffic without signaling.

A Floyd man was arrested recently after he allegedly fired shots in a public area believing someone was trying to kill him. According to an arrest citation written by Floyd County Sheriff's Deputy Dusty Newsome, on May 21, he responded to a complaint at the Save A Lot store in Martin that a man was shooting in the parking lot.
Floyd students come to the need of family in distress
Two Floyd County Schools students are being thanked for going the extra mile in helping a family in distress this past weekend. According to a press release from Floyd County schools, a family, who wishes to remain anonymous, were enjoying a ride on their side-by-side during this past weekend. The father, who was accompanied by his wife and young child, said they veered off the road and down a hill. He said he found himself in need of help, to remove his family from a bad situation. Within minutes, two individuals arrived at the scene and began offering assistance. The two individuals were not paramedics, law enforcement or anything of the sort; these two individuals were Floyd Central High School students Greyson Crum and Gabe Little.

A Wolfe County man was arrested on felony charges after he allegedly fled from and endangered a Prestonsburg Police Officer. According to an arrest citation, on May 20, Officer J.T. Layne was parked at the intersection of North Lake Drive and University Drive at approximately 12:30 a.m. when he saw a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier drive by him.
