Betsy Layne Elementary’s Kendra Slone said she was singing melodies before she could even talk, but until 18 months ago, she didn’t look at music as something she could pursue. Around that time frame, the 12-year-old sixth-grader joined the mini pros at the Mountain Arts Center. She then moved on to the rising stars program before becoming a member of the Kentucky Opry Jr. Pros. Students can help clean up county through Cash for Trash program
Floyd County middle and high school students have an opportunity to help clean up their communities and earn money for their clubs at the same time. Under the Cash for Trash program, middle and high school clubs can earn $100 for every mile of county road their members rid of trash.
