Michael Gallup Injury Update Doesn't Look Good for Week 1

    2022-07-28

As NFL Training Camps around the country begin, we are given more information about teams and players. In particular, fans are often interested in learning about where the progress injured players are making and when we can expect them to return to the field. Today, we were given a Michael Gallup injury update from the man himself.

Unfortunately, the Michael Gallup injury update may not be a positive one for his fantasy football owners. However, it does improve the value of other Dallas Cowboys pass-catchers, such as rookie Jalen Tolbert.

    Michael Gallup Injury Update

Michael Gallup is coming off of a contract extension. Unfortunately, he's also coming off a torn ACL, which occurred on January 2nd. Due to this, he begins Cowboys training camp on the PUP list, which means he is physically unable to perform.

He can be taken off of the PUP list at any point, though the Michael Gallup injury update suggests that won't be soon. Today, the Cowboys wide receiver stated a Week 1 return "is not a realistic possibility.”

The fact that Gallup is saying Week 1 is not in the cards suggests he will be a fair amount away from a return at that point. For this reason, the Michael Gallup injury will likely mean he at least begins the season on the PUP list, which requires him to sit the first four weeks.

    Jalen Tolbert Fantasy Outlook Improves

As a result of Amari Cooper leaving and the Michael Gallup injury update, it's clear there are targets up for grabs, and rookie Jalen Tolbert will see his fair share. He has looked good in training camp to start, as he will be a long, athletic option to stretch the field for Dallas. Jalen Tolbert fantasy owners could have a sneaky WR3 or flex option to begin the year.

Of course, the Cowboys could search free agency for another receiver as well. One veteran who has indicated he would like to return to Dallas and catch passes from Dak Prescott is Cole Beasley. Should Beasley return to this offense, look for him to garner plenty of targets Week 1 against the Buccaneers, as Prescott looks to him to move the chains on third downs, as has been his role throughout his career.
