Chiefs' All-Pro Ruled Out For Super Bowl LVIII

    2024-02-11

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the middle of a dynasty run, and they have completely changed their offensive philosophy. Yet, the results continue to be the same under the leadership of Andy Reid. While the big brain of "Big Red" is a big reason for the Chiefs playing well, the amount of talent they have on the field clearly helps. Unfortunately, ahead of their Super Bowl LVIII matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs received a sad Joe Thuney injury update.

Thuney, the All-Pro offensive guard for the Chiefs, is a massive part of Kansas City's interior offensive line. The Chiefs have gone from a high-flying passing offense to a team that controls the clock and plays incredible defense. The ability to run the ball has been vital for the Chiefs, and the play of Joe Thuney at guard has allowed them to do this. Unfortunately, Kansas City will be without him once again, following a disappointing injury update for Joe Thuney.

Joe Thuney Injury Rules Him Out For Super Bowl

The Joe Thuney injury update at the end of the week has determined that the All-Pro guard will be unable to play in Super Bowl LVIII. Thuney suffered a pectoral injury in the Divisional Round. While he seemed like a longshot to play again this season, the fact that he was doing everything he could to play in the AFC Championship gave some fans hope for the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, Thuney will be another spectator for one of the most-watched events ever.

Offensive line coach Andy Heck spoke to the media about Andy Reid's "next man up" mentality for this team. In this case, Heck says, "Nick Allegretti, you’re the next man up. Let’s go. Just step in." Allegretti was a seventh-round pick in 2019 and has been on the Chiefs for both recent Super Bowl titles. He has started 13 regular-season games and played in 74, so he does have some experience under his belt.

Joe Thuney is a three-time Super Bowl champion, with his first coming with Kansas City last season. He has been a massive part of this Chiefs offense, and he will still be a champion and get a ring if the Chiefs win, but even Thuney would tell you that it is not the same as earning it on the field. In a close matchup that will be decided in the trenches, this Joe Thuney injury update is a tough pill to swallow for Kansas City fans.

    Jerick McKinnon Injury Update

Unlike Joe Thuney, the Jerick McKinnon injury update is less clear and his status is still up in the air. While Thuney was a non-participant all week long, McKinnon was limited, giving him a chance to be active against his former team in the Super Bowl.

McKinnon was activated off of IR with a groin injury in hopes of being able to play. With the interior offensive line weakened by Thuney's injury, having the receiving threat of McKinnon would be a great thing for this offense to help get in a rhythm and control the clock. He had seven touches in the Super Bowl last year, totaling 48 yards.

Only time will tell if the Jerick McKinnon injury will keep him out or not. He is a true questionable tag ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.

We want to hear your score predictions for the big 49ers vs Chiefs matchup! Does Kansas City have enough to win back-to-back rings?
