FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- In an effort to make the Fond du Lac County Fair a sensory-inclusive event, the fair announced Monday it will partner with SSM Health Treffert Studios to create a designated area on the fairgrounds for individuals with sensory needs.

The County Fair said the sensory room will be available for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and related disabilities, including learning difficulties, developmental disabilities, or sensory impairments. Individuals will be able to take a break in a quiet, air-conditioned space with a carpeted floor, calming lights, relaxing sounds, and interactive activities.

The County Fair said other amenities in the room will include weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, and quiet activities to aid guests who need help processing the sights, smells, noises, and crowds at the fair. Patrons should check in at the sensory room when arriving at the fair to gain a lanyard or wristband, which will help fair staff identify individuals with sensory needs.

Located in the Expo Building, the County Fair said the sensory room will accommodate up to 12 guests. The room will be available from July 18-21. To learn more about hours of operation and general information, visit fonddulaccountyfair.com .
