FOND DU LAC – The Partisan Primary Election is Aug. 13, and deadlines for registering and voting early are approaching soon.

The polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 13, and the winners of the contested races will move on to the general election Nov. 5.

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg said voters should note they must stay within one political party when voting in the partisan election, or the ballot will not count. Election officials will explain this at the polls, but absentee voters should keep this in mind to ensure their ballots count.

Voters can visit myvote.wi.gov for information about their municipal clerk, their polling place, what races are on their ballot and how to check if they're registered to vote.

Here's where and how to vote in-person and absentee

The deadline to register to vote is July 24 if registering online or by mail, and Aug. 9 if registering in your municipal clerk's office. Voters can register at the polls the day of the election.

Clerks have started to send out absentee ballots, and the deadline to request one is 5 p.m. Aug. 8 for regular voters and permanent overseas voters. For voters who are indefinitely confined, or are in the military and not away from home, the deadline is Aug. 9.

Absentee ballots must be returned to the clerk's office by 8 p.m. Aug. 13. Voters returning them by mail should be mindful of when they're sending them out.

Early in-person voting starts July 30, and clerks' offices vary in hours and availability.

Contested races include newly-drawn 20th Senate District

According to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, three state legislature races will be contested Aug. 13.

Two Republican candidates are vying for the 20th Senate District seat: Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac and Timothy Ramthun of Campbellsport. Michael Rapp of Van Dyne is the Democratic candidate.

Feyen is the current District 18 senator, but as a result of redistricting, the city of Fond du Lac is now drawn into District 20, which also includes the county villages of North Fond du Lac, Eden and Campbellsport, as well as parts of Dodge, Washington, Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties.

Ramthun had previously been the representative for the 59th Assembly District until 2022.
