FOND DU LAC – Are rainy days dampening your family's summer vacation?

If a beach day or park outing is out of the question the rest of this summer because of rain or high heat, here are some local indoor activities to check out instead.

If the forecast is unpromising, book an escape room.

The Great Escape , 21 N. Portland St., Suite 1A, has two escape rooms available Fridays and Saturdays.

"Prison Break" gives two to eight players one hour to find evidence that their friend Nathaniel Chadworth is innocent of murder, but that evidence is locked inside the jail warden's office.

"The Pirates' Secret" places players as hostages to Captain Cain The Cantankerous aboard The Drunken Squid, tasking them to find the captain's treasure before they're forced to walk the plank.

A third room is under construction, teased on the Great Escape's website and Facebook page as retro diner-themed, and set to open soon.

Fond du Lac events: Things to do this weekend in Fond du Lac include free Lou Gramm concert, Cars on the Island and more

Book an ax-throwing session.

Fondy Axe Company , 25A N. Main St., offers ax throwing for all ages, and unveiled a new bar and recreation area this spring with pizza and beer specials for more adult-focused outings.

Ax-throwing sessions are 30 minutes to two hours, with up to four people per lane. Reservations are encouraged for peak times, such as Saturdays, and can be booked at fondyaxeco.com .

Fondy Axe Company is open 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 4 to 11 p.m. Fridays, 1 to 11 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 7 p.m. Sundays.

Heat got you down? The skating rink is air conditioned.

Korneli's on the Avenue, 605 Fond du Lac Ave., is the local spot for indoor roller skating, and also features an arcade area with more than 70 games. The facility is air conditioned and includes a full bar for the adults, as well as food, including Bob's Pizza.

Open skate is 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. Adult skate for guests 21 and older only is 6 to 10 p.m. Thursdays.

Many Fond du Lac Public Library events are free to attend.

Fond du Lac Public Library , 32 Sheboygan St., has several activities and events for each age range in the community to engage in, such as storytime for kids, gaming nights for teens and book clubs for adults.

The Idea Studio is open Mondays through Saturdays for a variety of activities and crafting opportunities. Free drop-in projects that don't require training include jewelry making, Legos, origami, Shrinky Dinks, friendship bracelets, adult coloring pages and many more.

Equipment that requires training through the Idea Studio includes 3D printers, a printmaking press, a recording studio and sewing, serger and embroidery machines.

The library also has a number of items available to check out in addition to books and movies, including board games, baking equipment, tech toys and other equipment.

Forest Mall: Remember when the Forest Mall first opened in Fond du Lac? Features included the fountain and yearly bazaars.

Children's Museum of Fond du Lac offers brain-engaging activities.

The Children's Museum of Fond du Lac , 75 W. Scott St., has a number of events for members this summer aimed to prevent the "summer learning slide." These include engaging, hands-on activities for kids, including storytime, a garden club, and science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) activities.

The museum also has indoor and outdoor activity space open Tuesdays through Saturdays. Admission is $8 for adults and children, $7 for seniors and free for infants younger than 1. Memberships are also available, and admission tickets can be applied toward a membership for those who decide to become members on the day of their visit.

The little ones can play at Wonder while the adults enjoy a coffee

Wonder , 15 N. Main St., is a play café downtown offering open play space with toys and other tools for engaging and imaginative play.

Admission is $6 for 30 minutes, $9 for 60 minutes and $12 for 90 minutes, with a $1 discount when buying admission for siblings. Adults do not need to pay admission to enter the play space with their children. Once the area is at capacity, Wonder will open a waitlist online.

Outside the play area, the cafe has coffee, tea and other drinks, as well as sandwiches, baked goods and kids' snack trays.
