The 400-acre Sierra Fire got close to homes in Fontana on Sunday, but is now no longer a threat.

A retaining wall was the only thing that stood between homes and the fire at one point. A man told KCAL News that he told his family to get ready to leave in case the fire got too close.

“I talked to my wife, ‘Hey, if you got any cash, I don't know where the cash is at.’ She does grab the cash, grab the paperwork, tell the kids,” he said.

The fire was 80% contained as of Sunday night. No damage to buildings was reported and there were no evacuations. However, the air quality is still bad on Monday morning, and a smoke advisory is set in place until at least 3 p.m.
