    2021-11-24

(CHICAGO) Welcome to the daily roundup this Wednesday, November 24. Let's look at today's top stories.

It's the day before Thanksgiving in Chicago, and Americans everywhere are getting ready to stuff themselves full of turkey and side dishes. Take a break from your Thanksgiving preparations and check out what is happening in Chicago today.

Illinois Republicans propose new stimulus checks

Illinois Republicans have proposed stimulus checks to Illinois residents with the hope of stopping rising inflation in the state.

The $200 checks would go to every Illinois resident that made under $75,000, and joint filers making under $150,000 would receive $400.

According to WCIA.com, State Representative Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) suggested that Illinois could use some of the money from the Covid relief fund from Biden's American Rescue Plan to pay for the checks.

Weighing your Thanksgiving risk in Chicago

What's the risk of gathering for Thanksgiving in Chicago? Axios reports from October 22 to November 18, Covid cases have almost doubled.

    • Only 1/3 of Chicago seniors have received booster shots.
    • Only 20% of children have had at least one vaccine dose.

What did health commissioner Allison Arwady say in her online address to Chicago? "If you are not fully vaccinated you should think about not gathering at the holiday. But if you are going to gather, I would recommend taking a COVID test before."

On Thanksgiving Day the Bears will kick off at 11:30 AM against the Lions at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Bears week has been full of drama such as a rumor that coach Matt Nagy will be fired after the game tomorrow, an injury to Justin Fields, and the news that Andy Dalton will return to a starting position. Check out the Chicago Tribune story for all of the riveting details.

In the midst of catastrophe, here are some reasons to give thanks

And finally, we can take a moment to remember the reason for the holiday. It's to give thanks and feel gratitude for what we have.

Although the world has been a confusing and frightening place the past year or two, columnist Michael Sneed of the Chicago SunTimes finds plenty of reasons to feel grateful this Thanksgiving.

The first few words on his list: Family, Forgiveness, and Empathy.
