Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza faces shortages but will be back permanently

Taco Bell pleased its customers, including Dolly Parton, when the chain announced the return of this fan-favorite menu item.

It's been an ongoing saga with the return of Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza. Maybe you're tired of hearing about it, or perhaps you can't get enough. Either way here comes more news on the subject.

To recap the history of this beloved menu item, in November 2020, Taco Bell stopped serving Mexican Pizzas at its fast-food restaurants. The fast-food chain was trying to streamline its menu to make its kitchens more efficient.

Fans of the Mexican Pizza spoke out

However, the loss of the Mexican Pizza hit consumers hard, and backlash ensued. A petition on Change.org received 171,714 signatures. Celebrity, Dolly Parton, got involved and told Food & Wine that she would like Taco Bell to bring back the Mexican Pizza.

It all gets a bit complicated after this. On May 19, 2022, the Mexican Pizza returned to Taco Bell to the joy of its fans. But after one week of its triumphant return, there began to be rumors of the item selling out at some locations.

Can I find a Mexican Pizza at my local Taco Bell?

It's selling out across the country and may not be available. According to Taco Bell's frequently asked questions page,

"Because of the incredible love for the Mexican Pizza, we have begun selling out across the country. Our restaurant teams trained weeks for what we knew would be a big return, we just didn't realize how big, and replenishing the beloved menu item is taking longer than we’d like."

When will the Mexican Pizza be back for good?

We don't when. Here is what Taco Bell had to say,

"We’re working diligently with our restaurants and suppliers to get more back in the hands and stomachs of our biggest fans. You can follow along on this page for the latest details and information, including when we anticipate the Mexican Pizza to return to its permanent residency on the Taco Bell menu."

What's the deal with the musical?

Oh, and there's also going to be a song about the Mexican Pizza, but it's delayed as well. Taco Bell announced a TikTok exclusive Mexican Pizza-related song by Dolly Parton and Doja Cat would be dropped on May 26th. But this is delayed.

According to a tweet from the chain, "At this time, we are postponing Mexican Pizza: The Musical."

So there you have it. It may be hit or miss for some time, depending on where you live, whether or not you can find a Mexican Pizza, but eventually, you should be able to find one at your local Taco Bell whenever you get the craving.
