Need a date for Valentine's Day? How about celebrating with a friendly dog?

    2023-02-09

The Anti-Cruelty Society is holding a Dog DATE Out from February 12th to February 18th.

(CHICAGO) If you were planning on spending Valentine's Day alone this year, think again. You could spend the day with an adorable, furry four-legged friend ready to bring you unconditional love.

Let's be honest. Going out on Valentine's Day can be a real pain. The restaurants are packed, and you have to get dressed up. Unless you have a significant other, you need to find yourself a date.

You may want to skip the whole thing, but that doesn't mean you need to go the day alone. A dog won't care if you're stylishly dressed or wearing yoga pants and a hoodie. Nor will he complain about where you take him. He'll be cheerful always and love you just the way you are.

Take a dog out on Valentine's Day

If you don't have a dog in your life, the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago is running a special campaign for the week of Valentine's Day.

From February 12 to 18, you can come into the shelter and tell them you'd like to participate in Dog Date Out.

You get to hang out with a dog in need of a home. If it's a good match and you decide to adopt your date, the shelter will waive the adoption fees.

    Maybe you prefer cats?

If you're short on time, or you really are a cat person instead of a dog person, head to the shelter on Valentine's Day for a "Hissing Booth" photo opportunity with kittens and cats in need of homes.

Special adoption rates on Valentine's Day

Adoption fees for dogs and cats are only $14 on Valentine's Day.

How to take a dog out?

Head to the Anti-Cruelty Society at the River North location during open hours and tell the staff you want to take a dog out for the day. The staff will help you choose a dog and a dog-friendly location for your field trip.

    Adoptable dogs

You can view adoptable dogs on the website. You may find someone in need of love, like Abigail, a shy four-year-old who is missing her previous companion.
