Although this refreshing drink went viral on TikTok last summer, it's been around a lot longer.

Yes, you may have noticed, the drink is called lemonade, but it's made with limes. Brazilian lemonade is thought to have originated in Brazil by a street vendor. According to All Recipes, in Brazil, the drink is called limonada Suíça, which translates to Swiss lemonade. The beverage isn't Swiss, but the Swiss company, Nestlé, began selling condensed milk in Brazil in the 1900s, which could be where the drink got its name.

It's a refreshing drink, simply made with limes, sugar, and sweetened condensed milk. Though it sounds sugary, it's surprisingly not too sweet.

There are many variations of the recipe, and it's one you can adjust to taste. Add more sugar or sweetened condensed milk if you like it sweeter. Try it with more limes for a tangier version. Or add rum for a boozy summer cocktail. The version I tried was from All Recipes.

    Ingredients

    • 2 limes quartered
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 3 cups water
    • 3 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk

    Directions

    1. Cut the ends off the limes and cut them into quarters.
    2. Add limes, sugar, water, and sweetened condensed milk to the blender.
    3. Pulse 5 times. Don't blend any longer than 5 pulses, or your drink could end up bitter.)
    4. Strain the liquid over a glass filled with ice. Serve with a lime garnish if desired.
