Sometimes you crave something sweet, but it doesn't mean you want to spend an hour or more in the kitchen making an entire platter of cookies. In this instance, microwave cakes make a perfect, individual-sized dessert for your sweet tooth. (Also try this easy chocolate mug cake recipe.)

This gooey, mug cake is best when it's warm and paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Add some whipped cream and hot fudge sauce for a decadent dessert for one -- and in just a few minutes time.

For this recipe you'll need the usual ingredients for a chocolate chip cookie, but in small quantities. Feel free to use your favorite choice of chip: semi-sweet, milk chocolate, or even try butterscotch, white chocolate, or your favorite flavor.

    Ingredients

    • 1 tablespoon melted butter or vegetable oil
    • 1 tablespoon white sugar
    • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
    • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/8 teaspoon of salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 egg yolk
    • 3 tablespoons flour
    • 1 to 2 tablespoons chocolate chips

    Directions

    1. Mix oil and sugar together in a microwave-safe mug until well combined.

    2. Add baking soda, salt, vanilla, and egg yolk. Stir until combined.

    3. Add flour and chocolate chips and stir again.

    4. Microwave the mug for 60 seconds, or until the batter is puffy and slightly wet in the center (microwave oven times will vary - if not done, microwave for another 20 seconds and check again, being careful not to overcook.)

    5. Let cool for a few minutes and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
