This Maryland Town Has Been Named the Best Beach City In the State

    2023-10-16

An article published by Stackers has identified a particular town in Maryland as the best beach town in Maryland.

The site compiled a list of the best beach towns in Maryland, and you may be surprised at what actually showed up!

Stacker determined rankings by several factors, such as the number and size of nearby beaches, local weather, the duration of the swimming season, businesses related to the beach, unemployment rates, and home prices.

The findings are revealed, and the site has labeled Ocean City, MD, as the best beach town in Maryland.

Ocean City, officially the Town of Ocean City, is an Atlantic resort town in Worcester County, Maryland, along the East Coast of the United States.

The population was 6,844 at the 2020 U.S. census, although during summer weekends the city hosts between 320,000 and 345,000 vacationers and up to eight million visitors annually.

During the summer, Ocean City becomes the second most populated municipality in Maryland, after Baltimore. It is part of the Salisbury metropolitan area as defined by the United States Census Bureau.

Here are some quick facts about Ocean City:

    • Number of beaches: 7
    • Beach length: 10.2 miles
    • Average swim season length: 102 days
    • Average county summer temperature: 77.3 degrees
    • Median home price: $325,900

Following Ocean City, there were other Maryland beach towns that made it onto the list.

    • Annapolis Neck
    • Rock Hall
    • Tolchester
    • Highland Beach
    • Chesapeake Beach
    • Stevensville
    • Crisfield
    • Long Beach
    • Edgemere
    • Mayo

So, what makes a good beach town? Well, it's all about having access to a beach, of course. But it's also about offering plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep kids entertained, providing warm weather, and having a long beach season.
